2026 Rabbit Creek Gas Line Re-route
Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to re-route a gas transmission line to extend the service life of the pipeline and prepare for future expansions. The re-routed line will run under the Seward Highway and Old Seward Highway, along Porcupine Trail Road, under Rabbit Creek, and along Twilight Lane and Elmore Road just north of Rabbit Creek Road.

The new gas transmission line will be placed using two different techniques. Under the Seward Highway, Old Seward Highway, and Rabbit Creek, contractors will use a horizontal drilling technique, allowing the pipe to be placed under the road and creek without digging up the ground above it. Along Porcupine Trail, Twilight Lane, and Elmore Road, crews will be digging a trench to place the new pipe.
Project Timeline
Construction schedules are subject to change, but are expected to progress as follows throughout the summer of 2026:
- Mid- to Late-May: Construction activities begin with surveying and clearing in the right-of-way.
- Early June: Horizontal drilling under the Seward Highway will affect residents on the western side of Porcupine Trail where the pipe will be staged before being pulled under the road.
- Mid-June: Horizontal drilling under Rabbit Creek will affect residents on the western side of Twilight Lane where the pipe will be staged before being pulled under the road. Residents on Porcupine Trail will see heavy equipment in the area.
- Late June-Early August: Trenching and pipe installation will affect residents throughout the project corridor on Porcupine Trail, Twilight Lane, and Elmore Road.
- Early August: Crews will be in the area, but work will be less disruptive to residents than in the previous phase.
- Mid-to Late-August: Crews will be re-seeding along the project corridor, demobilizing, and completing construction activities.
How Properties May Be Affected
All work will be performed within the utility right-of-way. In some locations, we will need to remove trees that are in the right-of-way. If property owners are storing any items within the right-of-way, they will need to be moved prior to the start of construction.
During construction, there may be brief periods where access across driveways is restricted. We will limit those times to the greatest extent possible. When actively trenching and laying pipe across driveways, we will place a metal plate over the trench to allow property owners to continue using their driveways.
After construction, we will restore yards and driveways disturbed by trenching (re-grade, re-seed, etc.) but will not replace trees and structures as the right-of-way must remain clear.
